China's GWM Flaunts Two 8-Cylinder Engines at CES Bengt Halvorson - Car and Driver
- Great Wall Motors, a Chinese automaker, showed two eight-cylinder engines at CES this week.
- The 2.0-liter flat-eight makes 154 hp and 140 pound-feet of torque and powers the Souo S2000 motorcycle, but it could be fitted to a future production car.
- GWM's twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 has been shown before, and it's unclear what the engine will be used for, but a premium brand is on the horizon.
Known as one of the more ostentatious of China's core domestic automakers, with an emphasis on SUVs and a full line of all-wheel-drive vehicles, Great Wall brought its flat-eight engine back to CES with a unique news twist: It's also likely to put the engine into a car or SUV.

Great Wall confirmed that the flat-eight isn’t intended only for motorcycles. "We can put this V-8 engine in other vehicles in the future," summed representative Shenghao Tang, at GWM's stand. "This is not just for motorcycles... it's for cars."
