Pay penalty charges for those who were still on contract. Just to put it in perspective though, most pple in my office travel A LOT. We are talking about easily 1K phone bill for heavy users. My bill goes up to at least $500 for a single week travel so paying the penalty isn't that much to the company

Halloween is another instance of american cultural imperialism. Why should a singaporean child be trick-or-treating when there's so much local culture to learn about?

I view halloween as a meritous festival. It appears full of imaginary ghostly figures for kids but as the kid grows up, he will soon realise that there are no such figures at all and its all man made. It gets rid of Fear.

Of course there will be people working against such a festival as it opposes the agenda of instilling fear into people's lives.

OK U guys have a freaking amazing imagination. Since I wasn't there I am assuming most pple in here just took those comments from that article and twist it into whatever happened to the Halloween event. First off the only statement that I can even remotely point to anything to do with the Halloween event is

Such family bonding, I believe, is very important for Singapore because we need to create informal occasions where families, children can bond with their parents and grandparents.

And the only part that might actually have some very remote connection to the Halloween event is the Family bonding part but since Halloween in Ang Moh land is one where kids play dress up as little monsters to go treat or treating and makes perfect sense that it is a family event I am still totally loss as how that can be translated to "Get rid of the F***ing Halloween event and do a Deepavali one!!!!" but whatever.
