Motorist fined $5,000 for causing death of pedestrian

A MOTORIST was reversing his car when it hit a woman pedestrian who was crossing behind his vehicle.
Goh Teow Hock, 59, was fined $5,000 and banned from driving for two years on Thursday for negligently causing the death of Madam Ong Hee Lan, 45, along Jalan Kubor, off Rochor Canal Road, on July 25, 2009.
As a result of the accident, Madam Ong suffered serious head injuries and died three days later in hospital.
Goh could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for causing death by doing a negligent act.
