One mother was burnt while having a celebratory lunch and another was found dead at the foot of a private apartment block.
The incidents marked a bloody Mother’s Day weekend for two families here.
An Australian woman working here was burnt by a culinary torch used to caramelise creme brulee, a dessert.
The teacher, who wanted to be known only as Andrea, said she had planned a Mother’s Day treat for herself and her mother at the Clifford restaurant at the Fullerton Bay Hotel.
She suffered second-degree burns when her hair caught fire. Her right shoulder, ear and face were also burnt.
At Springdale Condominium in Bukit Timah (above), a mother is believed to have repeatedly slashed her 12-year-old son before she was found at the bottom of the apartment block.
The boy had been slashed at least five times, with one gash cutting close to his heart.
Hours later, the mother was found motionless near some bushes. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
