More than half of JC students expect to earn $3,000 monthly for their first
job

In a survey conducted by BrightSparks, a scholarship, higher education and
career portal 55.4 per cent of ‘A’ level and IB graduates said they expect to
earn more than S$3,000 per month while 10 percent expects to make more than
S$4,000 per month after they graduate.

Four in 10 students voted Business Administration as the most popular course
of study, followed by Accounting (28.8%) and Engineering (28.6%) based on
findings of the same survey which covered some 2,700 students.

The top five most popular industries to work in are banking and financial
services
, airline/travel, public service, healthcare and
auditing/accounting.

The survey also found that students prefer scholarships issued by local
universities to those awarded by government agencies or companies.

The National University of Singapore retained the top spot as the most
popular scholarship provider followed by NTU.

====================

How many of you here think that the JC students are being delusional?

Probably only the few top students would get that, if they manage to get into
firms such as Morgan Stanley or Bloomberg.

Polytechnic graduates, especially those from SP and NAP, get $1,800 - $2,500
and they've got much better grounding in terms of real-world job specs.

These JC students are scaring the wits out of employers -- more Foreigners
coming your way!

3k is a decent asking price.

hi there

1. yo! get real!
2. wake up & smell the kopi.

4. unless it wants to spread legs or lick some balls to begin with.
5. stop building white castles in some airs.

good luck! my industry and company pays one of the top salaries. the most senior entry level staff on my team has 15 years of experience and she makes $3.3k a month. she is also a NUS graduate.

1/3 on my team are foreigners; mostly Koreans who has either a Msc or MBA with at least 5 years of experience post-graduate. none of them ask for the kind of salary list here.

at one point, I had a PSC scholar who worked for me for a period of 2 years. I had to fire him because he was not delivering.

With so many "cheap" foreign talents in Spore I also have my doubts about people getting $3,000 as an entry level pay.
Maybe the data is skewed, favouring GLCs where connections are more important than experienced:D

They factored in CPF deduction, living expenses, tax yet?

3K is nthing after factoring inflation & cost of living.

U guys should be happy about this piece of news. Spoilt brat comes into the real world and finds out it's not as easy as they think. Starts blaming the government for no good reason and votes the opposition because they were too much of a loser to work their way up

they already got the job, not looking for it.

then again those i asked most are in Astars. so it might not be a fair comparison.

but seriously i think you overestimated your industry calling it one of the best/top paying industry. cos even i in science, one of the worst paid job, those around me are earning ranging from 3.3k (degree) to 5.8k (phd)

...

this is pathetic. what industry is this?

Half of the JC girls if they are willing can earn more than 3k in just one day, the other half just too damn fugly to earn a single cent the same way, they would have to finish JC enter uni & maybe something lah!

... More than half of JC students expect to earn $3,000 monthly for their first job ...
sinkielan is 3rd richest cuntry in ze world ...

a $3,000 monthly pay is insulting! ...

Please lah, your industry must be one of those that we would want out of Singapore. if 5 years' expereience cannot get 4-5k, might as well go be a taxi driver. Please quit your job.

Says who? How can Sinkieland be the 3rd richest cuntry in the world when there's not even a Sinkie among the Forbes richest 200 list?

15 years ago in 1997, the starting monthly pay of fresh graduates was between $2,500 to $2,800.

If today we are still talking about $3,000 starting pay for our uni graduates, then it means our real wages are actually going down all these years!

Expected salary of $3k is reasonable considering an entry level position in a IB environment with 1 yr exp pays a little more than that.

IB pays good money but not a 'Iron rice bowl'. Wait till these young grads get married and have kids aka increased committments then working in a IB might pose further stress and challenges to them.
