SINGAPORE: A young offender who used expletives on a district judge was on Wednesday sent for additional reformative training.

20-year-old Lee Wen Jie was sentenced on 25 March this year by District Judge Lee Poh Choo for previous offences.

When Lee heard that he was to be sent for reformative training, he started scolding the judge and uttered expletives in Hokkien dialect.

For this, he could have been jailed up to a year and fined a maximum of S$5,000.

District Judge Siva Shanmugam on Wednesday said Lee's offence is a "significant one" and this warrants a heavy punishment.

But the judge noted that if a jail term were to be imposed, it would undo the reformative training Lee had already gone through.

Judge Siva said it was more expedient for the accused to undergo reformative training, which was to take effect from Wednesday.

This means Lee will be undergoing additional reformative training for at least another six months. - CNA/xq
