Onlookers were stunned when a pricey luxury car got stuck in the sand at an Auckland beach.

Local Kelsey Smaill said he noticed an Audi A7 stuck on Kohimarama Beach in the city's eastern suburbs about 2.20pm on Friday.

"I was just walking along, I was going for a walk, and then they started driving along the sand. They kept on going and got stuck and then got deeper and deeper.

"They got stuck in the middle of Kohi Beach, and they were there for probably a good hour and a half."

Mr Smaill said he believed the AA helped the two men get the car back on the road.

He believed the owners were trying to photograph the car but was shocked they would take an expensive car onto the beach.
An Auckland Council spokeswoman said driving on Kohimarama Beach was prohibited under the Public Safety and Nuisance Bylaw 2013.

Under the bylaw, a person was not allowed to drive, ride, propel, wheel or park any vehicle on a beach, except in the case of an emergency, or with the prior written approval of the council.

The restriction did not apply to anyone driving a vehicle by a direct route at a speed limit of 10 km/h on a beach where access was permitted, to launch or recover a boat in the water.

However, every vehicle had to be removed from the beach immediately after launching or recovering the boat.

SDP members will help the driver to take the photograph and then pull the car back to the road.

They were probably testing out the Quattro All wheel drive system. Supposed to be invincible, capable of tackling any terrain on earth. :D

It obviously doesn't work very well. I have driven my Hilux on that very beach with no problems whatsoever.

Ang Moh idiots are doomed regardlessly. Their fucktard god also can not save them.

Maybe they bought the fwd model and thought its a quattro. They should trade for a Subaru.

Hilux da best!
Toyota da best!

Seriously, I am quite fed up with german cars already (I've owned VW, Audi, BMW). And I have been told Toyota and Lexus are good and reliable. May I ask for your advice? On sedans not off roaders.

ANY Toyota/Lexus sedan is better than ANY german sedan.

OK, thanks for the sweeping comment. Not helpful at all.

It's a sweeping comment but it is also the truth. When it comes to reliability, you can't go wrong with Toyota.

German engineering is overrated.

Alright, I will need to read up more. I did speak with a few folks who said Toyotas are reliable. But the cars have very thin bodies as compared to a decade ago. I fear the "hollow" feeling when driving. Referring to sedans, not 4x4 off roaders or pickup trucks.

That is an absolute fallacy. This might have been true back in the 70s when fuel consumption was improved by the Japs by making the cars lighter but we are now well into the 21st century and all cars have to meet 5 star ANCAP ratings to satisfy consumer expectations. Cars cannot be built like tin cans in this day and age. They all go through crash testing.

I've driven Beemers and I've driven Toyotas and the only difference in the "feel" is because of the fact that beemers are rear wheel driven while the Toyotas are front wheel drive.

If you enjoy the traditional rear wheel drive feel, get a Lexus.

I see what you mean. But some cars are just made tougher and fair better at crash testing than others. I am impartial to rear or front wheel drive, I don't drive fast enough to be bothered with over or under steer. I believe the "feel" is more due to the body and chassis construction. A Lexus does seem like a probable choice.

What about Hyundai?

Improved by leaps and bounds. I've owned an ix35 for the last two years and it has not put a foot wrong.

I'll probably trade it in for the new Tucson when it arrives in NZ at the end of the year.

Is nz so boringly safe and irrelevant they have to report such b.s.?what next a burmese riding a seatless bike stuck on the beach?
