A BLAZE in a two-room flat in Marine Parade on Monday has left its occupant, a 62-year-old man, fighting for his life.
The fire was raging in the bedroom of his flat in Block 53, Marine Terrace, when officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) showed up and forced their way in.
Mr Yeo Hak Seng, found semi-conscious in the living room, is in Singapore General Hospital with burns. He was still in critical condition last night.
Student Rachel Lee, 18, called the ambulance at about 3.30pm when she saw black smoke coming out of her neighbour's closed living room windows.
'There was also the smell of food burning,' said Ms Lee, who lives two doors from Mr Yeo, known to neighbours as 'Ah Seng'.
An SCDF spokesman said the bedroom was in flames, but the fire was under control in 10 minutes.
