For decades, the PAP has been uttering to us: “Ours is a system of meritocracy” and “Ours is a clean and honest system that pays top dollars to the best”.

The ministers keep repeating these statements in public and with the unabated broadcasting of selective stories and information by their media to support these claims, in no time most Singaporeans joined in to parrot the same.

People do not take a pause to think how much water these statements hold, whether these are political propaganda designed to remain in power, or marketing strategies formulated to brand the ruling party to the world and international organisations.

Not long ago, we saw Lim Boon Heng (a minister without specific responsibility and a former labour union chief) bidding a teary farewell in public when announcing his retirement from politics. He had good words for his party and even warned Singaporeans of the need to live a painful outcome, should there be a freak election result. I thought, then, he would subsequently be given a stress-free job to keep him occupied throughout his nice retirement.

However, as it turned out, it was a shock...http://www.tremeritus.com/2013/07/25/can-we-still-trust-them/

You know what is the sad thing, the trust we have in our government is eroding, yet other than elections every five years, we do not have avenues to seek the removal of ministers who cannot control the departments under their purview. We cant even protest, unless the government allows it.

Lim Boon Heng cried for the money he will be missing! He wud still be in PMO had not the voters indicated extreme displeasure...... so he took cover for a while and then got a golden car park job in Temasek and other GLC directorships...... sum total of fees collected beat his ministerial pay!!!

Rest is history as he is now Chairman of Temasek making perhaps more than a minister. What does he know about finance and investment??????????????????????????????????? Like that also can!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SIngapura Boleh too!

Let's hope Toothpick Lim Gay Chiam would give us more insights into the sinkie concept of meritocracy.
As an encore, let's hope he does productivity too.

Clueless netizens armed with nothing but half a brain commenting about matters that they don't understand.

The Public Service consists of more than 140,000 persons from all walks of life. On the odd occasion, one or two will go off the rails and do something dishonest. When they are caught, they are dealt with and I have to emphasise that the punishments are severe. In many countries eg NZ, crime actually pays as the sentences are so light that they are a joke. Not so in Singapore.

There has always been corruption in Singapore and there always will be. However, because of the excellent leadership of the PAP, it is kept so low to the point that it has no effect whatsoever on the daily lives of the citizens. No bribes need to be paid in order for things to get done. For that, you should all be eternally grateful to LKY and the team that he put in place.

too many curses become blessings
when you spit at heaven
you look up and the spat falls on your face
so do be careful when you curse and spit at someone
karma is an unforgiving monster
when it strikes, you have no way to run
majulah singapura always!!!
