My maid did not finish her contract - on hindsight she never intended to finish it; only interested in taking the loan & vamoose after a few months on the job. The trick is to run away to her Indon Embassy who will protect her even when she is totally in the wrong. All she has to do is to say absurd thing like my employer wanted me to hang up the curtain by climbing a ladder (in a landed property on groundfloor!!!). Embassy then uses its influence by appeal to MOM for help to exert pressure on employer. So we now have now have an unholy trinity of maid, embassy & MOM working in tandem to whack the SINGAPOREAN employer!
Look at the Foreign Workers Act - it browbeats employer; FDW who do not complete agreed contract gets away scotfree. Worse most maids spin stories claiming absurd back wages which MOM helps to recover!!
MOM also abuse their powers to block employer's application for new maid forcing a settlement. Such practice done unchecked is downright dirty play and makes citizens lose faith with MOM n Govt who are supposed to play fair or assist just like embassy is blindly helping their own kind in perpetuating even in wrongdoings.
