Molesters on the prowl at S'pore's nightclubs
NIGHTSPOTS in Singapore are prime preying grounds for molesters, The Straits Times (ST) reported on Saturday.
Intoxicated women at such places make for easy targets, and there are also now more women taking to frequent drinking.
Sociologist Mathew Matthews said in the ST story that research has shown a sharper rise of female drinkers despite more people across age groups picking up drinking compared to 10 to 20 years ago.
Younger women are seeking to enjoy "the similar types of pleasures" that men seem to enjoy, he was quoted as saying, in a push for greater gender equality.
Figures reported in ST showed that 647 people were caught for outrage of modesty in the first half of 2010.
Meanwhile, places like Butter Factory and St James Power Station are stepping up efforts to arrest the problem, ST said.
At the former, posters are put up to remind customers to be more vigilant and security officers there are trained with the police to deal with suspected offenders.
At St James, additional security officers are deployed when the clubs see greater traffic.
