MOH unsure whether to mask or not to mask

have lah. 3m factory in sg produces masks for sexport to u.s. tons of n95 masks from sg factory arrived in port of l.a. earlier this week. their n95 masks use their trademarked filtrete technology. they rammed up their factories across the world, including one in sg, to produce n95 masks. here's the link to their corporate statement.

"3M Chairman and CEO Mike Roman issued the following update announcing additional details about 3M’s capacity increases of N95 respirators, strong measures to combat price gouging and counterfeiting, and new partnerships to help protect our healthcare workers on the front lines:

We continue to act with urgency to address this crisis from every angle, and do all we can to protect our heroic nurses, doctors and first responders. As previously communicated, beginning in January we ramped up to maximum production of N95 respirators, doubling our global output to a rate of 1.1 billion per year, or 100 million per month. This includes 35 million per month in the United States, and over just the last seven days we have delivered 10 million N95 respirators to healthcare facilities in states across the country." blah bah blah......
so technically the machines in Tuas and all their products belong to the US.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH “EXPERT” KENNETH MAK: I DON’T KNOW WHETHER HEALTHY PEOPLE SHOULD WEAR MASK OR NOT
By admin -April 2, 202013 0

MOH Director Kenneth Mak

When pointed out that the United States government has done a reversal policy on wearing face masks in public and questioned if Singapore will follow suit, the director of medical services at Ministry of Health, Kenneth Mak, replied he does not have the answer.

The phoney coronavirus “expert” said he need to discuss with the PAP politicians before giving the instruction:

“The ministry is looking at evidence very carefully and conducting a review of our stance on masks, as we do with other policies. As far as masks are concerned, we are in fact in the process of continuing to review the data that’s available, both in the literature as well as the international experience. The recommendations would be made after the review is completed.”

Kenneth Mak did not give a timeline when the PAP government will complete their “review”.

In China, Czech and Slovakia, not wearing a mask in public is an arrestable offence. The successful control of the outbreak in Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong also see everyone in society wearing a mask in public.

Singapore just reported its 1,000 case reported with 4 deaths. The latest deceased is a 68 year old Indonesia medical tourist, who sought treatment at Singapore’s self-trumpeted “world-class” healthcare.
Who is this Kenneth Mak???
By the way he decides, many more get infected and more elderly will die.

Isn't Razer Tan setting up a line to produce masks here? Oh was that just hot air?
Not so easy and not so quick a turnaround. You would need a machine making the masks and more importantly you would need a machine to make the high grade paper filter.

I would think hyflux has the capability for that but looks like that company was already in deep shit

if potus calls up the ceo, all priority shipments go to the u.s. there’s little sg can do to commandeer those products and factory capacity, unless......

update: potus invoked the defense production act on 3m this morning to produce and prioritize n95 face masks for use in u.s. this means some of 3m production capacities in the world are "commandeered" by other cuntries where 3m factories are.

white house trade adviser peter navarro said at the briefing, "we've had some issues making sure that all of the production that 3m does around the world, enough of it is coming back here to the right places."
