MOH explained in a statement saying that it supports TTSH’s termination of Roy’s employment contract.

They said that Roy’s actions “show a lack of integrity and are incompatible with the values and standards of behavior expected of hospital employees.”

Commenting on his sudden dismissal, Roy wrote to facebook that it was not unexpected.

What is curious is that the Ministry of Health has felt compelled to issue a statement on this matter so quickly after it occurred.

Does this mean that the MOH had known all along of the intention of TTSH to fire Roy and had already been prepared to ‘support’ them?

Decisions about firing staff members usually lies with the employers, in this case TTSH, and the Ministry of Health should have little input into this process.

It is understandable that MOH would feel compelled to issue a statement if there was a lot of unexpected public concern and these concerns had been directed at MOH for them to look into the matter, however this was not the case at all.

MOH issued a separate statement on the issue very shortly after it was announced that Roy got fired; even before anyone would have had the opportunity to raise questions about his dismissal and ask for MOH’s opinion. Did they have a hand in the firing of Roy?

Furthermore, their statement highlighted that Roy had a ‘lack of integrity’. Is this the attitude you want to see from government ministries when they refer to people who are raising genuine concerns about public policies that affect all Singaporeans?

Did MOE issue a statement condemning all teachers and principals caught having sex with underaged prostitutes?
