MOE hires grads from Indian unis as teachers but not SG grads with distance-learning

Re: MOE hires grads from Indian unis as teachers but not SG grads with distance-learn

The first thing kids are going to learn from these Indian teachers is to say 'YES" with shaking of the head instead of nodding !

Oh man......this is going to really confuse the poor kids!

TEACHERS from India are being recruited to teach here, not just for the Indian Mother Tongue languages but also for subjects such as English, history, geography and economics.

At least 70 of them have been hired in the last four years, with another 10 due here later this year, said a recruitment agency in India engaged by the Ministry of Education (MOE)...

One who arrived here last month is Mr Vivek Mukherjee, 25, who was teaching English language in Kolkata. He took a test in written English, went through an interview and conducted a demonstration class to clinch the job here.

Now in Chestnut Drive Secondary for a 10-week stint, the holder of a master's degree in English literature from the University of Calcutta is on a full scholarship to earn his Postgraduate Diploma in Education from NIE.

Ms A. Goh, second upper honours (Bachelor of Arts) graduate who applied to teach. She now works in a publishing company:
'I applied to teach twice but was not called for an interview. I sought advice from my former school principal and was told to try for an allied educator position, for which you need only a polytechnic diploma.'
SIM graduates find jobs easily, but earn less

However, I realise that the Govt authorities do not recognise my distance-degree when I apply jobs and my qualification is only recognised by the private sectors throughout my employment history. I were once laid off and applied to for relief teaching with MOE during that period and in fact, the authorities only recognised by local Polytechnic certificate and not my distance degree and I were paid as a non-degree rate while being a relief teacher in the govt schools.

Re: MOE hires grads from Indian unis as teachers but not SG grads with distance-learn

If they hire Pinoy and Pinay teachers largi worse.

Came across one pinay producer from Mediacock. She pronounced the word "fact" as "fuck", seriously no kidding.

Is that a FUCK? Wat the fact!!!

Re: MOE hires grads from Indian unis as teachers but not SG grads with distance-learn

GY bears the blame as he was FM. And I cant believe that many still think GCT and GY were 'good' ministers etc. Spore is in the shits now thanks to them as those policies were implemented during the GCT years....

GCT fucked us up with medisave & medishield while Tony Tan screwed us by giving scholarship freely to FTs along with good jobs upon graduation!!

Re: MOE hires grads from Indian unis as teachers but not SG grads with distance-learn

There are so many mickey mouse universities in India. One must be nuts to allow such graduates to work for them.

Re: MOE hires grads from Indian unis as teachers but not SG grads with distance-learn

The bugger probably have problems with her lousy resume. I have lots of friends working in the civil service with a distance learning degree

MOE thinks so too:

"One who arrived here last month is Mr Vivek Mukherjee, 25, who was teaching English language in Kolkata. He took a test in written English, went through an interview and conducted a demonstration class to clinch the job here."

if they had more resources, they should give this chance to local applicants too.
