Cheryl Chan, Assistant Director of the Planning Division at the Ministry of Education (MOE) wrote: the government does not plan to encourage more students to get a higher education. The university enrollment rate will continue to be maintained at 20-25 percent because the Singaporean labor market does not need everyone to get a four-year degree

Poorer singaporeans who have t no money to send their choldren overseas are most disadvantaged widening the inequality in our society. This govt don't deserve our support any more[/TD]

The real reason is because you can migrate out of Singapore more easily if you have a degree. PAP gov want majority Singaporeans to remain as slave in Singapore with no option of immigration. That's why most ends up with diplomas.
