The visit is at the invitation of the Australian government as part of its Special Visits Programme.

Ms Fu will meet senior officials from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations in Canberra, as well as the New South Wales Department of Education in Sydney.

She will visit schools and institutions to learn more about holistic approaches to education in Australia.

The programme also includes a visit to construction firms in Sydney and Melbourne to learn more about the industry and productivity improvement strategies.

All our ministers are the besterest, hence are paid much more than President of USA to manage a small portfolio.

What then are they going to learn from some ministers in outher countries than are not as good as them ?

Taxpayers are paying them for their learning curve or to copy what others do better then them ?

We might as well outsource it to them. No need to invent the wheel and should be much cheaperer, fasterer and betterer, I beleive.

Yea, outsource all these ministers and MPs. We can save a bundle.

New business opportunities as Chinese firms venture overseas: PM

WUHAN, HUBEI: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said Singapore is facing increasing competition from China's coastal cities as they become better developed.

But there are also new business opportunities, as China's development moves inland and more Chinese companies venture overseas.

That was Mr Lee's assessment of China's progress, after visiting its inland cities of Chongqing, Changsha and Wuhan, the capital of central Hubei province.

Mr Lee is on a working trip to several cities in central China to witness first hand the progress of the country's inland development.

Mr Lee said that as the coastal cities become well-developed, their counterparts in central China are keen to narrow the gap.

"Their difficulties are large, because they also have the rural populations to worry about. So, they have to balance between the city and the rural population, and providing housing and infrastructure for the growing city population," said Mr Lee.

"We hope there will be opportunities. I think the Chinese companies are going international, abroad. We hope they will find Singapore a good place to set up their regional headquarters and run their regional offices," added Mr Lee.

One Chinese company that has ventured overseas is Hunan-based Sany Group, one of the biggest companies in the construction machinery industry.

It produced the concrete pumps used in the construction of Singapore's integrated resort at Marina Bay.

Mr Lee said: "You may have a first-move advantage. If you go earlier, then you would be able to spot the opportunities and if you can make the project succeed then the upside may be larger.

"But you have to have staying power. You have to be able to be discerning to know where you can find a good partner. And you have to take a chance, because nothing is certain, and you have to continue to work at it for a long period of time."

During Prime Minister Lee's visit, Chinese officials have consistently proposed ideas to work with Singapore to emulate the success of the Suzhou Industrial Park. Mr Lee said Singapore enjoys a good brand name, which companies could harness for further opportunities.

At Wuhan, Mr Lee also met Hubei Party Secretary Luo Qing Quan.
