Minister Tan Chuan Jin to open 1000 new childcare places ahead of elections

Minister of Social and Family (MSF) Developments Tan Chuan Jin today (August 11) announced that his ministry will open two large childcare centres that could cater up to 1,000 childcare places in Sengkang and Punggol.

“We understand the needs of parents with young children in these estates. We are working hard with local grassroots advisers and other government agencies to meet these needs. The two upcoming large child care centres in Sengkang and Punggol are the result of these partnerships.”

At the opening ceremony for the Sengkang childcare centre, the government agency under Tan Chuan Jin’s MSF, Early Childhood Development Agency (EDCA), added that the two centres will be ready by mid-2016 and that three more childcare centres, with 300 childcare places each, will be built in Jurong West, Woodlands and Yishun respectively.
The childcare centres will be managed by government-approved operators like the government-owned NTUC and private pre-school corporation Etonhouse.
