He as only VP in charge of Bionix's armour most of which was done thru subcontract by a geman company in Bonn

ST Kinetic need the oversea patents in order to sell their spare units to overseas customers. Dr Ting wrote in other articles that mindef procured 50+ units of the vehicles when SAF need no more than 20 units.

mindef may have guns but the PEN is always mightier than the gun.

The overseas market is potentially much larger then the domestic market. that is why ST wants the patents. Ting will simply direct all his efforts on the overseas market. The market also includes many NGOs like Red Cross and WHO. I really do hope that MINDEF sell those spare units overseas. If they do sell to one of the countries where Ting has files his patent, Ting can sue them and win. That will really make the MINDEF have egg on its face. In any case, any overseas buyers that MINDEF has in mind do not want to be caught up in a law suit. SO, I am not really sure who MINDEF will sell it to. Maybe their usual banana republic customers like Myanmar.

The only issue is that even if Ting gets an order from overseas, he cannot manufacture the vehicles in Singapore. he will get hit with a cease and desist court order. SO he has to move his manufacturing facilities overseas. maybe to Malaysia. Might not be a bad move for him as he can have a lower manufacturing cost, and he might also brand the vehicle as coming from a muslim state and open up another whole market in the middle east, and for NGOs like Red Crescent.

this patent is mostly mechanical, and it's hard to defend. can be easily copied by tiongs, and with slight variations in the west, it can sidestep several claims and so called "uniqueness" of the invention. market is not huge, and valuation is thus small.

There is nothing innovative in SAF design. the SAR-21 wasn't unque--copy of Israeli and Austrian gun but it was patented.
