Hard work and luck are not mutually exclusive.

There are many actors & actresses who worked at least as hard as Michelle, but didn't get any of the lucky breaks to star in blockbuster Hollywood movies enjoying huge international audiences.

In any industry, behind the most successful cases, are both tremendous hard work and (at least 1 critical) lucky break. One without the other can't make it that far to the top.
