Chicken rice was originally $2 before Michelin award, is now $2.80. Quality has also declined.

Actually, the additional customers after receiving the Michelin award were tourists, sometimes carrying their barang-barang.

For the old customers like myself, who frequented the stall before it got the award, we just went back for nostalgia.

There's another stall in Chinatown Complex... Maria Virgin Chicken.

Maria is actually the original grandmaster....hailing from New Nam Tong heritage. New Nam Tong was a Chinatown stalwart as old as Chinatown itself.
Their soy sauce chicken used to be known as Rose Chicken. Back then every afternoon queues would form to buy their freshly cooked rose chicken for $8 per bird.
Liao Fan himself learnt his trade in New Nam Tong.
Maria is owned by HK singer Maria Cordero who is daughter of one of New Nam Tong’s owners.

I think Liao Fan had stated before he worked as an apprentice in New Nam Tong restaurant for 20+ years before setting up his hawker stall.

They are popular due to affordable prices n not bad taste which is value for money.
