I like the differentiation of excellence and superiority. The latter is what is practised in SINKapore. The superior PAP vs us.

Meritocracy is an ideal.capitalism is the system.capitalism doesn't reward people who are good at their job or doing something, sure u get paid more if u possess a highly desirable skill but u are just one of the goods in the means of production, capitalism rewards people who understands what the system is and how to exploit it, basically people who are good at business and finance.

Capitalism does NOT benefit all, only those who know how to exploit people. So, the myth of capitalism sold to the world is that everyone can make it. That's baloney. Common sense will tell you that not everyone can succeed. What are you willing to do to succeed - to backstab, to suck up, to carry balls, to kill, to do the bidding of your bosses, to sacrifice time with your kids for work etc?

Achieving middle class existence is achievable for all, with government involvement, eg Scandinavian countries. This is a better model than capitalism.

It's booming because bank licenses are restricted. And this lead to unregulated loans with punitive interests rates which hurt small businesses making them unable to grow.

Our Singapore's meritocracy model is....."best of the worst".

Like deciding on the worst race but must choose the best from it...eg our President?

Presidents are reserved for bumis. Just so to remind immigrant communities where their loyalty should be.
