Temperatures in Taipei rose to 39.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the highest ever recorded in the city, Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said, warning that similar weather conditions will continue for the rest of the week.
The high in Taipei was recorded at 1:58 pm. The mercury also surged to 37.1 degrees in Banqiao in New Taipei around 2 pm, the bureau said.
Daytime highs across most of Taiwan ranged between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius due to a high pressure system that has kept the weather warm and dry, the bureau said.
Precautionary measures against heatstroke are advised because the sweltering weather is likely to prevail until the weekend, forecasters said.
