Here is the full statement from the police:
Two male subjects, both aged 20, have been arrested for theft from an ATM after they were identified from a police appeal-for-information posted on the Facebook page of Sengkang Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC).
Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects had found the victim's wallet in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 3. They attempted to use the victim's ATM card to withdraw money from an ATM. After managing to correctly guess the victim's Personal Identification Number based on his date-of-birth, they proceeded to withdraw a sum amounting to $2000 and split it between themselves. The victim lodged a police report after receiving an SMS notification of the unauthorised withdrawal.
After obtaining the relevant CCTV images from the bank's ATM, a police appeal with photos of the suspects was issued on 9 April 2013. The suspects were subsequently arrested at Pasir Ris on 11 April 2013 after a member of public recognised the suspects from the Facebook page of Sengkang NPC.
Investigations against both suspects are ongoing for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, they are liable to an imprisonment term of up to 3 years, a fine or both.
