Aged 18 to 24, these young women will compete for the crown next month in a live-streamed pageant to be held alongside an online fashion show. The winner will go home with a diamond-encrusted crown said to be worth nearly S$100,000 (US$74,000), a slew of prizes, and the chance to represent Singapore at the Miss Universe pageant later this year in Israel.

“We are proud to present eight confident and captivating young women with aspirations and ambitions, whom we will be training and grooming for the Singapore finals competition next month,” pageant national director Valerie Lim said. “We are excited for their journey ahead and hope that Singaporeans will come together to support them as we continue to bring empowered Singaporean voices to a global stage.”

The competition is led by popular creative fashion director Daniel Boey.

Current beauty queen Bernadette Belle Ong made a fashion statement in May when she strutted down the runway in Florida with a cape emblazoned with the words “Stop Asian Hate,” though Miss Mexico Andrea Meza won the title.

This year’s international pageant will take place in December in Israel’s southern city of Eilat. The eight Singaporean finalists will compete at 9pm on Sept. 17. Audiences can tune in via the first edition of virtual fashion show The Front Row.
