At the launch of the Medishield booklet yesterday (August 2) at ITE College West, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong announced that the national healthcare insurance, Medishield Life, will start on November 1.

Those with existing Medishield or private shield plans will need not pay for Medishield Life premiums until their next policy renewal date. For those who have no health insurance, they will receiver a letter regarding their new coverage in October.

The hardest hit will be those with pre-existing medical conditions who have to pay 30% more in premiums. Pre-existing medical conditions will also be listed according to their severity like cancer stages. Those with pre-existing medical conditions can also appeal to pay lesser premiums if they are prove that their conditions have improved and have not seen a relapse for years.

Till today, the Singapore Government did not publish the cost of Medishield premiums even though they are paid through the Medisave Account in CPF. However the cost will definitely be more expensive than the existing Medishield premiums.

Singaporeans living overseas are not exempted from Medishield Life premiums, even though they do not reside in Singapore. In his Parliamentary speech this January, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong’s explanation was that these overseas Singaporeans will “get to enjoy healthcare subsidies should they return to Singapore for treatment”.

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong have also emphasized that he will jail Singaporeans who do not pay Medishield Life premiums. The Singapore Government has also passed a bill in 2013 that they will access personal bank accounts of premium defaulters. And defaulters who try to leave the country will face a fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to a year, or both, in addition to a 17% penalty charge.

The PAP knows it will be unpopular so expect the GE to be announced very,.. very soon. Probably before before Nov, when Sporeans find out the cost $$$$ of Medishield Life premiums

Most sinkies welcome Singapore's version of ObamaCare national insurance plan. There are many sinkies without any form of health insurance, and this Medishield Life will help them with their medical expenses. Nearly all private insurers will not insure any sinkie who has poor health or some sort of pre-existing illness.

They are announcing things in bits and pieces because truth be told, they are unable to launch after nearly two years of talking.

All sorts of letters flying here and there does not help even those with education, let alone the less educated.

They should tie up all the lose ends, have one consolidated campaign to explain everything.

Health Minister Gan is playing politics - issuing statements regularly to position himself as being capable and doing it for the people.

It's all about the erections, this short arse.

There are many reasons to be unhappy with the PAP: their population policies, high inflation , their pro-foreigner stance, the problems with flooding, dengue, breakdowns, how they treat locals,.....etc

Now that many Sporeans are in retirement age wonder how many people as angry with the PAP over our missing $$$$

They force us to put $$$$ into the CPF.
They give us a low interest rate for the amount that is in it.
When we use it to buy a home, they loan it to us with interest. We are being charged interest to use our own savings on top of the low rates of return we are getting
They will not tell us what they are really doing with all that $$$$ & whenever anyone asks they are stone walled & even get into trouble e.g. Ong Teng Cheong, Roy Ngerng
Now they are refusing to return the money & are implementing schemes to exhaust our savings.
They are even threatening to fine & imprisonment those who don't want to cooperate.

So even if you are pro-PAP, you are/will be affected by the CPF policy. So if you ever want to see your CPF savings you will have to vote against the PAP.

Is this the KIND OF GOVERNMENT YOU WANT?, you can't pay the premium, you get arrested, when you land in Singapore, never mind coming back for medical treatment ! sic! In other words, you are 'condemn' , the only way out of these oppressive policies is to get 'rid of the government'...
