SINGAPORE - McDonald's is investigating a complaint by a customer that he had found worms in one of its most popular meals.

IT freelancer Jasper Lee had a nasty surprise on Tuesday (Oct 20) morning as he was tucking into the Big Breakfast set which comes with a sausage patty, toasted muffins, scrambled eggs and a hashbrown.

"I had already eaten a few mouthfuls when I spotted something moving, and it turned out to be worms," said Mr Lee, who also lodged a complaint through the fast food chain's online feedback form.

"It came as a shock to me - I've eaten the same meal many times and this is my first time encountering something like this. I totally lost my appetite after that."

The 27-year-old, who lives in Lorong Ah Soo, had ordered his food via the McDelivery service at around 7.15am. His order was delivered an hour later from a nearby outlet at Block 208, Hougang Street 21.

In a video sent to The Straits Times, several small white worms can be seen wiggling on the sausage patty.

Ms Patricia Yong, McDonald's Singapore's director of operations, said the company had been in touch with Mr Lee and was "looking into this matter very closely".

"Let me emphasise that food quality and safety are our top priority and we take all customer feedback very seriously," she said.

"At the moment, we are doing everything we can to establish the facts of the matter."

The Straits Times understands that McDonald's staff visited Mr Lee at his home on Tuesday evening to collect the remains of his meal. It will be taken to a laboratory for testing.

Mr Lee speculated that while the worms were seen on the meat, they could have originated from the scrambled eggs. He had cut up a small section of the eggs and found "quite a number" of worms crawling around inside.

"They're small and they're white, so it's difficult to spot them amid the yellow if you don't look closely," he said.

"McDonald's has been pretty quick in responding to my complaint, but I hope they do their checks and find out the cause soon."

This is what happens when you eat meat.

that should be maggots, since maggots are the only worms in the world that eat meat.and dead rotten meat that is.

i left a juicy medium rare ribeye steak in the fridge for 3 days, and lo and behold maggots as big as cheetos nuggets were found crawling in the steak.

As part of my regular maintenance I'm doing a anti-parasite cleansing. This time I'm trying out a product called SCRAM

So for those who are worried about worms can give it a try:D

I use to do this for decades from a very young age....I do a yearly "intestines" cleaning, I go to the Medical Hall, buy a bottle of Combantrin, there are pictures of worms on the box, the box is bluish/green in colour, comes in a was it 10ml or 20ml orange looking liquid. One have to consume the entire bottle in one GO....one, get a tall glass of gold water, one "chan pei mui" ( standby), open the bottle, drink it down, drink the water...before the taste reaches the tongue..or you will need the " chan pei mui". Approximately 1 hr.....you will go toilet & all the 'guests' living inside you, will be discharged........don't want to describe..will spoil your meal.

A very good & effective cleanser..did this for a very long time, till they don't sell Combatrin in Singapore anymore & I do not trust the tablets of same brand found in Malaysia etc..

This type of worms are edible and extra protein.....
Dun worry they won't replicate inside your body like thread worms (the ones you should be worried about).....

I was given some deworming medicine when I was in lower primary school and the "animal" was shitted (shat?) out, clinging to the solid turd. It was huge (don't remember roundworm or tapeworm). I screamed when I saw it and I thought I was pooping out me intestines! The worm was dead already, and the medicine (don't recall what it was or what it was called) must've killed it. It was gross man! Those days, lots of ways for these parasites to get into our digestive tract. I suspect mine came from sharing "ice-ball" with the neighbourhood boys playing in the street.

Cheers!

I think we consume worms quite often without even knowing it. I bought a bag of langsat one evening and began eating them in the car in darkness. When I reached home and viewed them under the light, I then noticed the fruits were infested with maggots! The were small and white and were wriggling in colonies inside the fruits. No stomach disorders from them. Digested well. Watched on TV too, many cultures consume maggots and other creepy crawlies as part of their regular diet. Nothing wrong with it.

Cheers!

In these days of industrial pesticides and what not chemicals inside your food.....
The maggots actually acted as your 'poison testers'....you can eat safely with peace of mind.....just wash off the maggots.

I dunno what shit they use to fumigate the rice nowsadays..... Keep them forever and you still dun see weevils.

Where can we find vegetarian worms?

Cheers!

either you get cancer or you get worms! you can't have both!

It is quite rational to assume that maggots are safe to eat, unless they are from Ah Tiong land. Could be fakes!

Cheers!

You have just described for me, what Combantrin does....thanks...yucks! & gross...it is the food we eat daily...rice contain a lot of the eggs of the rice beetles do you know?...vegetables, plenty of parasites, unseen, even after cooking..fruits...the list goes on.... that is why, we need to Clean the system yearly...something which I had not done for a very, very long time....

I was underweight in my younger days and qualified for free milk in primary school. They made us line up for a cup of milk (it was diluted condensed milk), scooped from one big vat, and the vat was buzzing with flies! Shit man, thinking back, the hygiene standard can be described with one word - NONE! I think whoever put that free milk program together should drink it him/herself, just like they say, taste one's own medicine!

Cheers!
