The Selangor palace issued a statement on Thursday, saying Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had decided to revoke Anwar's 'Datuk Seri' title because the latter had repeatedly questioned the integrity of the monarchy in dealing with the recent Mentri Besar crisis. The Sultan also rebuked Anwar for questioning matters pertaining to Islam, and said the opposition leader was no longer fit to hold such an award. However, Anwar who received the award when he was Finance Minister, was also accorded similar awards from other states, which also carry the title of "Datuk Seri".
