Eleven Chinese nationals were trapped in an elevator at Marina Barrage for almost half an hour before they were rescued, causing more than 10 curious onlookers to gather outside the lift.
The incident took place yesterday at around 5pm at the lift near a cafe at the Marina Barrage, reported Shin Min Daily.
An eyewitness, known only as Mr Lim, revealed that the transparent elevator containing 11 people stopped abruptly at the second floor of the building.
The people who were in the lift were described to have looked flustered, especially when more people started to gather outside of the lift.
Lim said that the men and women were carrying briefcases and looked like they were on an official visit to the complex. He could tell that they were from China because of their accents when they spoke.
The spokersperson for the Public Utilities Board (PUB) said that the relevant personnel were informed and deployed when they received news that the elevator had broken down. The maintenance staff got to work and had the elevator fixed by 5.25pm.
