STOMPer saddy was at home when she saw police and the SCDF gathered at the foot of her block. Apparently, a man had tried to jump from his flat after a dispute with his female housemate.

Writes the STOMPer in her email (Jan 28):

"I heard the police say that a man locked up his female housemate.

"After the Civil Defence saved the girl, the guy tried to flee by jumping down but was luckily pulled back by a Civil Defence officer.

"Everything was on standby during the negotiations.

"I saw the woman had bruises on her hands.

"The police arrived around 3+pm, and around 4+pm, the SCDF arrived too.

"The incident happened around 6+pm."

STOMP contacted the SCDF and a spokesperson said:

"The incident happened at Serangoon North Avenue 4, Block 509.

"We were called by the police to come down to the scene.

"A person threatened to jump from the flat.

"He was apprehended by the police."

A police spokesperson says of the incident:

"Police received a call on 28 Jan, 2011, at about 4.05pm, informing us of a dispute between a man, 49, and a woman, 23, at a unit in Block 509, Serangoon North Avenue 4.

"Upon police arrival, the 49-year-old man was arrested for attempted suicide.

"Police investigations are still ongoing."

This is disgraceful and disgusting.

The law must be amended!

Those who are convicted of attempted suicide must be given the mandatory death penalty as punishment for their heinous act of disgracefulness.
