Man suspected to have stolen $3,000 worth of cables from vehicle arrested

SINGAPORE - A 49-year-old man suspected to have stolen cables from a vehicle has been arrested.
According to a press statement, the police were alerted to the incident, which occurred at the Blk 550B Segar Road multi-storey car park, at 4.49pm on Jan 8.
The vehicle owner had lodged a report, saying that his vehicle had been ransacked with cables amounting to $3,000 stolen from the vehicle.
Following investigations, officers from the Jurong Police Division were able to establish the identity of the suspect, and he was subsequently arrested along Yishun Ring Road at about 10.32pm on Feb 4.
The suspect will be charged in court on Feb 6 for the offence of theft. If convicted, he could face a jail term of up to 3 years, a fine, or both.
The police also advised the public to adopt the following prevention measures against theft from vehicle:
- Always secure your vehicle
- Do not leave valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase, wallets, etc in your vehicle
- Ensure that your car alarm is in working condition
- If you see any suspicious characters loitering around the vicinity, do take note of their appearance, clothing, height, age or any other distinctive physical features and contact the police for assistance.
