Thailand Durian farmers do it differently. To export to further places like China, they soak the whole damn fruit in chemicals after earlier harvest. Then when i see them in China supermarkets, the fruit already split open, and you are right, tasteless and stale.

The Malaysian farmers in Pahang extract the flesh/seeds, pack them in vacuum and refrigerated for shipping to China.
