A 69-year-old retiree, Mr Tang bought a new Toyota Corolla 7 months ago. It suffered an estimated $3,000 worth of damage after 2 cans containing mushrooms and peas were thrown from a HDB block down towards the open-air car park in front of Blk 127 Bedok North Street 2. Was this another case of envy or malice that a non-car owner harbours against a car owner?

There have been high-profile incidents of scratched luxury cars and slashed tyres making it to the news in S'pore. Do you think most cases are isolated neighbourly disputes, loan shark activity, random acts of mischief or pure envy?

Conspicuous consumption boosts our sense of identity and also conveys status and importance. In land-scarce S'pore, the less affluent have to make way for the wealthy; nowhere is this more clearly apparent than in car ownership. Unlike one’s private home, a set of 4-wheels is a possession that can be literally displayed at different places to a wider audience throughout the day. Car owners are perceived as wealthier and having membership to a higher social status group - not just to others, but also to themselves. Friction between the "haves" and "have-nots" is at its worst when it comes to car ownership.

Low SES HDB dogs should learn to buy cars in cheaper countries instead of dreaming of buying a car in Shitgapore that imposes COE

To non-car owners, seeing someone drive a luxury vehicle is not merely seeing a person far richer than them; it is seeing another person who can afford to spend the equivalent of a down payment on a HDB flat just on the tax to drive. This massive wealth gap breeds resentment, highlighting the class divide between the "haves" and the "have-nots".

Not necessarily a case of jealousy of luxury car, sometimes it’s due to driver being a fucked up or Bono driver that pissed neighbours off

Beans still edible. Don't waste gifts from above.
The closest thing to manna in modern day S'pore.

Bedok is a ghetto town. Only the Joo Chiat area south of Bedok South is a civilized place.

I vaguely remember how Bedok used to be before the malls were built, before Heartbeak@Bedok, before Princess Theatre was demolished. It's a very chaotic town now.

Every HDB block is a dangerous place to park your car under. I had chicken bones and a size D battery dropped towards my car while I was waiting for my then girlfriend (now wife). Fortunately, the battery landed 1.5 m away from my vehicle.
