A 34 year-old salesman was hit and robbed of his $2,000 gold chain and other valuables when he was returning home around 3.30am on Monday.
A police spokesman said he had entered the lift at Block 346 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 when four men rushed in.
The victim pressed the button for the sixth floor, while one of the men pressed the button for the eighth. They then punched, kicked and robbed him as the lift was going up.
He also lost his mobile phone, worth about $250, his wallet with his identity and ATM cards and about $200 cash.
The men fled when the lift door opened at the sixth floor and the victim gave chase down the stairs and across a few blocks before losing them at Block 325.
Police said the the four suspects have dark complexions, were slim, about 1.7m tall and in their 20s to 30s. Those with information can call the police at 1800-255-0000.
