A 34-YEAR-OLD odd-job labourer went on trial in the High Court on Monday for allegedly sexually abusing his daughter for 10 years, starting from when she was six. The alleged offences came to light only in April last year when the girl, now 17, confided in her mother after a scuffle with her father.
The teen had gone back to the family flat to get her things - her mother and younger siblings had already moved out a month - when he allegedly tried to have sex with her. The man faces a total of nine charges relating to the sexual abuse of the girl, the oldest of his three children, from 1999 to 2009.
The current trial involves three counts of rape, one count of oral sex and one count of molestation. The man, who is not represented by a lawyer, is fighting the charges and a nine-day trial has been set.
