A horrifying crime scene in South Miami hit Facebook Thursday when a man posted a photo of his dead wife -- and a confession that he had killed her.
Derek Medina posted the photo some time around noon Thursday, with the words "Rip Jennifer Alfonso." The image shows his wife's body slumped backwards from her knees on the floor in what appears to be the couple's kitchen. Her face and arms are covered in blood.
"You will see me in the news," reads a confessional status update posted minutes before the photo:
Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takecare Facebook people you will see me in the news" my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me "
Medina drove himself to the South Miami Police Department and turned himself in.
The Miami-Dade Police Department, who are now investigating the case, said detectives found Alfonso dead from apparent gunshot wounds when they responded to the home.
They also found Alfonso's 10-year-old daughter unharmed inside.
Miami New Times reports Medina has authored a number of self-help e-books, including one titled "How I Saved Someone's Life and Marriage and Family Problems Thru Communication."
Incredibly, his grisly posts remained published on Facebook until just before 5 p.m. Thursday, when they appeared to have been removed.

A Florida man who authorities say fatally shot his wife – and apparently then posted a photo of her body on Facebook – has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police said in an arrest affidavit on Thursday that 31-year-old Derek Medina said he had shot 26-year-old Jennifer Alfonso several times at their South Miami home after she punched him repeatedly and wielded a knife.
He told police that he had armed himself with a gun during a verbal dispute when she said she was leaving him.
When officers arrived at the home, they found Alfonso's body, as well as her 10-year-old daughter, who was unharmed.
A post on Thursday morning on a Facebook page identified as Medina's said: "I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takecare Facebook people you will see me in the news." A final post titled "RIP Jennifer Alfonso" was a photograph of a woman slumped on the floor.
The photo was up for more than five hours before Facebook removed the page late on Thursday afternoon.
A Facebook spokeswoman said in an email to the Associated Press that she could not comment on a law enforcement investigation but could provide a general comment from the company.
"The content was reported to us," the spokeswoman wrote. "We took action on the profile removing the content and disabling the profile, and we reached out to law enforcement. We take action on all content that violates our terms, which are clearly laid out on our site."
Police declined to comment on the Facebook posts.
Public records show that Medina and Alfonso first married in January 2010, divorced in February 2012 and then remarried three months later.
On his Facebook page, Medina claimed to be a supervisor at a property management company. Photos posted by Medina on Wednesday showed the family enjoying a meal alongside an unnamed marina and lounging beside a swimming pool.
Police said in the arrest affidavit that Medina never called 911, only turning himself in to police after going to see family and confessing.
According to the affidavit, Medina said the couple became involved in a heated argument in an upstairs bedroom when he armed himself with a gun and pointed it at her. He said Alfonso left the bedroom, returning later to say she was leaving him.
He said he went downstairs and confronted her in the kitchen, when she began punching him. He claims he went back upstairs to get his gun and confronted her again, at which time she grabbed a knife. Medina said he was able to disarm her and put the knife in a drawer, but that when she began punching him again, he shot her several times.
