By Khushwant SinghOn the run from the police since October 2009, Ng Bak Chwee was arrested at Golden Star Hotel in Lorong 8 Geylang last month.
On Wednesday, the 38-year-old was jailed one week for misappropriating $264 from Kopitiam Investment.
He was also jailed two months for cheating two people of a total of $2,800 in rental scams.
A district court heard that Ng was the operations executive in charge of the Kopitiam outlet in Bras Basah Road in 2006 when he pocketed $264 he had collected from the sale of Kopitiam uniforms to tenants and the fees they had paid for a hygiene course.
Dismissed from his job and facing prosecution, Ng did not stay out of trouble. On Feb 7, 2009, he collected $1,500 from Chinese national Ding Zhen Yi, 29, as one month's rent for a flat in Yishun Avenue 5.
Less than two weeks later, he rented the same premises to another family and pocketed $1,300.
Ng admitted to the police he did not have any intention of renting out the flat that had been leased to him. Full restitution has been made.
