SINGAPORE: A businessman, who was banned from the casino at Resorts World Sentosa, got around it by borrowing his wife's identity card or driving licence to gain entry on seven occasions.
Thirty-eight-year-old Tan Chee How ended up wiping out his entire life savings of S$80,000 at the casino.
Tan was jailed on Wednesday for five months and fined S$12,000 for various offences including impersonation and criminal trespass.
Tan, who has four children aged between four and 19, pleaded guilty to eight charges.
He committed the offences between May and August this year.
Court documents revealed he was under a three-month ban when the offences were committed.
He had a second exclusion order issued by the National Council of Problem Gambling.
In his mitigation, Tan's defence counsel, Mr Ravinderpal Singh said Tan had a gambling problem which "went out of control", and that he was remorseful.
The court heard Tan has since applied for a self-exclusion order banning himself from the casino.
Tan also pleaded guilty to two separate counts of harassment and abetment in a theft, which took place in 2009.
In July 2009, Tan assisted in the theft of a handphone, worth S$540, from a mobile shop by acting as the getaway.
The court also heard Tan had threatened his elder brother with a hammer during a family squabble at a bowling centre in May 2009.
Mr Singh added the brothers have since made up, and Tan is currently helping his brother part time.
