Man jailed for hitting maid with hanger, toothbrush

AN EMPLOYER who used a plastic clothes hanger and a toothbrush to hit his Indonesian maid was jailed for 10 weeks on Thursday.
Ibrahim Ali, 45, then a golf instructor, admitted to causing hurt to Ms Agustina Anjar Yuni, 25, at his Yishun home on Feb 25 last year.
The court heard that the victim, who started work in November 2009, was assaulted by Ibrahim on multiple occasions during the course of her employment.
That day, he scolded her for not replacing the used tube of toothpaste. He took a plastic clothes hanger and hit her on the left leg multiple times.
When it broke, the single father of two picked up a toothbrush to hit her on the forehead. Ms Yuni fled from the flat and went to Humanitarian Organisation for Migrant Economics at Lucky Plaza the same day. A report was made to the Manpower Ministry the next day.
Ibrahim, who had four other similar charges considered, could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined up to $7,500.
