A 33-year-old man was at Mustafa Centre when he switched the price tags on various items, in order to pay much less for them. Among the items that Lewis Gay Shi Jie got was a $578 food mixer, for which he paid $56. He managed to save $980 in total before being caught on his 2nd attempt. He was fined $2,500 after pleading guilty in a district court to 2 cheating charges.

Chang Ka Phin should have quit while he was ahead instead of continuing that same trick over 20 times. Alternatively, he could have paid for more items instead of just a drink to make the ruse less obvious. With CCTVs and security personnel around, it is foolhardy to do what he did.

In 2023, a group of Indian nationals on student passes was arrested and jailed for shoplifting over $1,700 worth of clothing from a Uniqlo outlet in Orchard Central. On 12 Oct, they stole 64 pieces of clothing worth $1,788. The removed the price tags from the apparel to disable the security alarms. They then hid the items in tote bags that they bought at the self-checkout counter. Days later, the group returned to the same store and tried to steal 72 items worth over $2,271. A security officer noticed their suspicious behaviour and asked for a receipt, causing them to abandon the goods and flee.

no money is not a good excuse to cheat or steal .... maybe can try seek help from family, friends and relatives ... :frown:

Best is you have an accomplice working at the supermarket and deployed at the checkout area when you are checking out the items. :sneaky:

I heard that Royal Sporting House had that problem for many years with their sales staff closing both eyes when their friends were "browsing" inside their stores.
