SINGAPORE - Unhappy with a police officer who had arrested him two weeks earlier for suspected drug offences, Suhaimi Naib assaulted the cop after being spotted in the same neighbourhood and approached for a routine check.

Suhaimi Naib, 45, punched Mr Muhammad Hafiz Ahmad, 24, in the face after the officer and his colleagues identified themselves and followed him to a carpark in Bukit Batok East Ave 3. He was subdued but later told the police sergeant in Malay: "I will find you after your work. I want to whack you."

On Wednesday, Suhaimi was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail for voluntarily hurting Mr Muhammad Hafiz on Aug 15, leaving him with a bruise on his cheek. Suhaimi, then a technician, was also fined $2,500 for verbally abusing the same officer after earlier being arrested for consuming drugs.

His total jail term comes up to three months, after the court ordered the 10-week term to run concurrently with another prison term. This was punishment for criminally intimidating a 30-year-old woman through her flat gate, with a letter opener.
