<!-- story content : start --> KUALA LUMPUR - A MALAYSIAN court yesterday sentenced a businessman to six months in jail for injuring former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad with pepper spray in 2006. Kelantan's Magistrate's Court found Nik Sapeia Nik Yusoff, 56, guilty of injuring four people, including Tun Dr Mahathir, defence lawyer Zainal Abidin Mustaffa said. 'We have filed an appeal, and the court has granted us a stay of execution of the sentence pending the hearing of the appeal in the High Court,' said the counsel. 'My client maintains his innocence.' In a closing submission, another defence lawyer, Mr Saseedharan Menon, said the court should take into account the good character of his client, who had made contributions to society. 'Unfortunately, the case has left a black mark on his life and family,' he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.
