Man has plastic surgery to look like Superman
Herbert Chavez is obsessed with the Man of Steel

The only thing that stood between man and Superman was a plastic surgeon.

Herbert Chavez has undergone dozens of cosmetic procedures in order to look like his hero, the comic book Man of Steel, according to ABS CBN News in the Philippines.

Over the past 15 years, the 35 year-old pageant trainer has spent thousands for the slim nose, chiseled muscles and blue eyes that are associated with his favorite superhero.

His obsession to detail includes Superman's trademark ebony hair complete with spit curl as perfectly cleft chin.

Chavez showed his bedroom to a reporter, revealing his complete obsession, from his Superman bed linens to wall decorations, dolls, and lifesize renderings.

His goal was to look like Christopher Reeve, the late actor who played Superman in four Hollywood films, although he also appeared inspired by the comic book renderings.

A psychiatrist admitted that while she had never treated Chavez, he likely suffers from body dysmorphic disorder, a mental condition that causes people to become overly obsessed with their physical appearance and perceived imperfections.

Chavez is far from the first person to succumb to the surgeon's knife to look like a fictional character.

A woman named Sarah Burge has become a celebrity of sorts in the U.K. in order to become a "human Barbie doll." Burge has admitted to spending $800,000 to get the face and body of the iconic blonde doll .
