Man fined for getting others to take rap for traffic offences

SINGAPORE: A former property agent has been fined S$13,000 for trying to get others to take the rap for his traffic offences.
Haresh Vishindas Chandiramani, 42, was convicted of offering S$200 to part-time property agent Raymond Tan Yew Chye to take the rap for his offence of driving along a road shoulder in September 2009.
Haresh was also fined for getting his friend, Azli Mohd Hasan, to take the rap for his traffic offence.
For taking the rap, Azli was jailed five weeks.
In mitigation, the defence cited a range of medical conditions plaguing Haresh, including heart problem and diabetes.
On compassionate grounds, the judge said she was prepared to depart from the sentencing norms and fined Haresh S$13,000. - AFP/nd
