He's accused of drugging women at malls, assaulting victims in budget hotels

AN ALLEGED serial rapist appeared in court yesterday charged with carrying out a string of sex crimes against women across the island.

Azuar Ahamad, 39, is facing five counts of rape, three of sexual assault and 14 of molestation.

He is also said to have drugged four women, stolen bank cards and been in possession of obscene movies.

His alleged victims were aged between 20 and 40.

Azuar is said to have drugged the four women - causing them to lose consciousness - at different locations such as shopping centres in Bishan and Woodlands.

The alleged sex attacks took place mostly at budget hotels in areas such as Balestier, Serangoon Road, Pasir Panjang and Lavender Road.

I was wondering how he could have drugged the women in broad daylight in such crowded shopping centres. Even if he had really managed to do that, how could he have check into the hotels with those semi-dazed women. Are those receptionists on duty all blind? Going by the areas of the budget hotels being mentioned, it is highly likely to be either fragrance or 81. Isn't there a need for double verification of identity at the counter?
