She had gone out with her daughter to buy tea for her son, who had been unwell for two days.
When Madam Lisa Lim, 50, returned to her flat, her son Mr Peter Tan was motionless on his bed.
His face and lips had turned black. He was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) but died soon after.
Mr Tan, 24, had been having fever and diarrhoea since Monday.
His death certificate listed the cause of death as cardiorespiratory failure pending further investigations.
The police, who were informed about Mr Tan's death by TTSH, have classified it as unnatural death and are investigating.
More in The New Paper on Thursday (May 12).
