Man charged with Teck Whye Lane murder

SINGAPORE: A 22-year-old man was on Tuesday charged with the murder of an 88-year-old woman in Choa Chu Kang.

Muhammed Fazrie Mohamed Ridzuan is accused of causing the death of Lee Ping Yeng about two weeks ago.

Fazrie was arrested on April 28.

The alleged crime took place at Teck Whye Lane, at about 11am on April 12.

The police said Madam Lee was found with head injuries at a lift lobby on the ninth floor of an HDB block at Teck Whye Lane.

She died three days later.

Fazrie appeared solemn in court, but was seen making brief exchanges with other accused persons siting near him in the court's holding area.

He will be remanded for a week, and his case will be heard again on May 6.

If guilty, Fazrie faces either a lifetime in jail with caning, or the death penalty. - CNA/nd/gn

SINGAPORE: The man charged with the murder of a woman in Choa Chu Kang has been remanded at Changi Medical Complex for psychiatric evaluation.

22-year-old Muhammed Fazrie Mohamed Ridzuan is accused of causing the death of 88-year-old Lee Ping Yeng.
