SINGAPORE — A 28-year-old man was charged today (May 22) with importing 21 puppies without a licence and subjecting them to unnecessary suffering.
Koh Cheow Chuan, a sales representative, is facing two charges under the Animals and Birds Act.
He allegedly imported seven pugs, 13 Pomeranians and one Pomeranian-Cross from Malaysia on Nov 20, last year. He is accused of hiding them in a spare tyre compartment in the boot of his car.
Koh was caught at the Woodlands Checkpoint at about 11.55am on that day. He did not have a licence issued by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Services. Koh, who is represented by Ms Yap Sue Jen, will be back in court on June 12.
