SINGAPORE - A 37-year-old man was caught red-handed by a member of the public after allegedly taking an up-skirt photo of a woman.

He was caught on July 2 at about 9am when he placed his mobile phone under the skirt of a 23-year-old woman standing in front of him in an MRT train.

His actions were seen by 32-year-old Mr Lim Teck Wee who immediately alerted the victim and helped to detain the suspect.

Upon arrival of the Police, checks were conducted on the suspect and obscene photographs were found in his mobile phone. The suspect was placed under arrest and his mobile phone seized.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing. If convicted of the offence of Insulting the Modesty of a Woman, he may be sentenced to a prison term of up to one year, fined, or both.

For the offence of Possession of Obscene Material, he can be imprisoned for up to three months, fined, or both.

The Police commended Mr Lim for his public-spiritedness and thanked him for his assistance in detaining the suspect.

"Mr Lim witnessed a wrongdoing and he acted on his instincts to ensure that the offender did not get away with his crime. Such public-spiritedness should be commended," said Commander of Clementi Police Division and Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong.
