SINGAPORE - A 29-year-old gambling addict not only busted five credit cards to pay off his gambling debts, but also borrowed from nine credit companies to fulfill his payments.
Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily reported that a 29-year-old engineer was so mired in debts that his aunts had to chip in to help him pay off $100,000 of his debts.
The man's father, Mr Foo, thought that he would turn over a new leaf after his debts were settled by his aunts, but was dismayed to find his son returning to his gambling habits.
Threatened to jump
After the aunts stopped helping the addict, he threatened to commit suicide by rushing to the kitchen window.
In the end, Mr Foo forked out the money to clear his son's debts. He now hopes that his son will apply for a self-exclusion order from the casino authorities.
Mr Foo is also now questioning why the banks did not cancel his credit card after they realised he was unable to fulfill his payments.
His son still owes credit card companies $20,000 and broke up with his girlfriend of 10 years because of his gambling habits.
