Manila, Nov. 6 (CNA) A Taiwanese national has been arrested at Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the central Philippines after being found with weapons in his luggage, according to an airport police report released Friday.
The 35-year-old man, known by his surname of Hung, was busted Thursday while preparing to board a flight destined for Manila, where he planned to transfer to another flight to Taiwan, the report said.
Airport security personnel found one KG-9 machine gun, one pistol, two bullet cartridges, mufflers and 100 bullets while conducting a manual search of Hung's luggage after it was found to be containing suspicious objects when going through an X-ray machine, the report said.
The man is now in custody at the Cebu police department for violating Philippine gun and ammunition control laws. He is suspected of being a member of a firearms smuggling organization.
The Philippine police reported the arrest to Taiwan's representative office in the Philippines.
